Fizika matematike
Fizika matematike është disiplin shkencore e krijuar si pikë premje e matematikës dhe fizikës.
Një përcaktim tipik i kësaj dege jepet tek Gazeta e Fizikes Matematike: "aplikimi i matematikes tek problemet ne fizike si dhe në zhvillimin e metodave matematike të nevojshme për aplikimet dhe formulimin e teorive të fizikës."[1] Ky përcaktim, nuk mbulon situatat ku rezultatet nga fizika përdoren për të ndihmuar në provat e matematikës abstrakte e cila në vetvete nuk ka asgjë të përbashkët me fizikën. Ky fenomen është bërë shumë i rëndësishëm, me zhvillimet në teorinë e kordave, zhvillime të cilat kanë rezultuar në kërkime të reja në matematike. Për përshkrimin e këtyre zhvillimeve, Erik Zaslov nxori frazën fizmatika[2], edhe pse shumica e studiueseve në këtë fushë këto arritje i konsiderojnë si pjese integrale e fushës se matematikës fizike.
Fusha të rëndësishme kërkimi në matematiken fizike janë: Analiza funksionale / fizika kuantike, gjeometria / relativiteti i përgjithshëm dhe kombinatorika / Teoria e probabilitetit / fizika statistike. Kohët e fundit, teoria e kordave, ka arritur të bije në kontakt me fushat kryesore të matematikes duke përfshirë gjeometrinë algjebrike, topologjinë, dhe gjeometrinë komplekse.
