John McCarthy (lindi 4 Shtator, 1927, në Boston, Massachusetts), është një shkencëtar kompjuterik amerikan i cili mori çmimin e Turing Award në 1971 për kontributin e tij të madh në fushën e Inteligjencës artificiale (AI).
He was responsible for the coining of the term "Artificial Intelligence" in his 1955 proposal for the 1956 Dartmouth Conference and is the inventor of the Lisp programming language. Ai ishte përgjegjës për termin fillestar "Intelegjenca artifiviale (Artificial Intelligence)" në propozimin e 1955 të tij për Konferencën e vitit 1956 Dartmouth Conference dhe është shpikësi i gjuhës programimit Lisp.
