Football League First Division ishte divizioni më i lartë i Ligës së Futbollit në Angli nga 1888 deri në fund të sezonit 1991–92, kur ekipet e saj u ndanë për të formuar Premier League. Nga viti 1992 deri në vitin 2004, emri Divizioni i Parë iu dha asaj që më parë quhej Divizioni i Dytë. Pas sezonit 2003–04, divizioni u riemërua Football League Championship (tani EFL Championship, me divizionin poshtë tij të quajtur EFL League One).

Divizioni i Parë përmbante midis 12 dhe 24 klubeve, që luanin kundër njëri-tjetrit në shtëpi dhe jashtë në një turne të dyfishtë round-robin. Gara bazohej në dy pikë për fitore nga viti 1888 deri në rritjen në tre pikë për fitore në 1981.

Historia

Liga e Futbollit u themelua në vitin 1888 nga drejtori i Aston Villa William McGregor. Fillimisht përbëhej nga një divizion i vetëm prej 12 klubesh (Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke (tani Stoke City), West Bromwich Albion, dhe Wolverhampton Wanderers), e njohur si Liga e Futbollit. Kur Liga pranoi anëtarë shtesë nga rivalja Aleanca e Futbollit në vitin 1892, ajo u nda në dy divizione.

Për 100 vitet e ardhshme, Divizioni i Parë ishte liga më e lartë profesionale në futbollin anglez. Në vitin 1992, 22 klubet që përbënin Divizionin e Parë zgjodhën të tërhiqeshin nga Liga e Futbollit dhe të themelonin Premier League. Liga e Futbollit u riorganizua si pasojë, me Divizionin e Dytë, të Tretë dhe të Katërt të riemërtuar përkatësisht në të Parë, të Dytë dhe të Tretë. Kështu, Divizioni i Parë, ndërsa ishte ende niveli më i lartë i Ligës së Futbollit, u bë niveli i dytë i të gjithë sistemit të ligave angleze të futbollit.

Divizioni i Parë u riemërua Football League Championship para fillimit të 2004–05, si pjesë e një riemërtimi në të gjithë ligën. Liga e Futbollit e riemërtoi veten si Liga Angleze e Futbollit para 2016–17, me nivelin e saj më të lartë që u bë EFL Championship në atë kohë.

Liverpooli ishte fituesi më i shpeshtë i Divizionit të Parë kur ishte liga më e lartë e futbollit anglez, duke e fituar atë gjithsej 18 herë.

Trofe dhe medalje lojtarësh

Trofeu i Divizionit të Parë të Ligës së Futbollit u dha për herë të parë në vitin 1891 dhe u është dhënë fituesve deri në vitin 1992.^[1]

Që nga sezoni 1947–48, shtatë paraqitje për klubin e tyre gjatë sezonit nuk ishin të mjaftueshme që një lojtar të kualifikohej për një medalje fituesi.^[2]

Që nga sezoni 1975–76, lojtarët duhej të bënin 14 paraqitje për klubin e tyre gjatë sezonit në mënyrë që të kualifikoheshin për një medalje fituesi.^[3]
