Martin Luther King, Jr. (15 janar 1929 - 4 prill 1968) ishte një amerikan klerik, aktivist dhe udhëheqës i shquar i Lëvizjes së të Drejtave Civile afrikano-amerikane.

Trashëgimia e tij kryesor ishte për të siguruar përparimin në të drejtat civile në Shtetet e Bashkuara, dhe ai është bërë një ikonë të drejtave të njeriut : King njihet si një martir nga dy kishave të krishtera ^[1].

Një ministër baptist, King u bë një veprimtar i të drejtave civile në fillim të karrierës së tij^[2]. Ai drejtoi Montgomery Bus Boycott më 1955 dhe ndihmoj themelimin e Southern Christian Leadership Conference më 1957, ku shërbeu si kryetar i parë.

Jeta në rini

Martin Luther King, Jr., lindi më 15 janar 1929, në Atlanta, Georgia. Ai ishte biri i Martin Luther King, Sr. dhe Alberta Williams King^[3]. Babai i King ka lindur në "Michael King" dhe Martin Luther King, Jr., u emërua fillimisht "Michael King, Jr.", derisa familja udhëtoi në Evropë në 1934 dhe vizitoi Gjermanin. Babai i tij i ndryshoj për dy emrat e tyre për nder të liderit gjerman protestant Martin Luther^[4]. Ai kishte një motër më të vjetër, Willie Christine King, dhe një vëlla më të vogël, Alfred Daniel Williams King^[5].

King u martua me Coretta Scott, në 18 qershor, 1953, në lëndinë të shtëpisë e prindërve të saj në qytetin e vet të Heiberger, Alabama^[6]. King dhe Scott kishin katër fëmij; Yolanda King, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, and Bernice King ^[7].

King u bë pastor i Dexter Avenue Baptist Church në Montgomery, Alabama kur ai ishte 25 vjeç në 1954^[8].
