Romani më i njohur i tij është Të zdeshur dhe të vdekur, të cilën a ka shkruar nga përvoja në Lufta e dytë botërore. Ka shkruar biografi të përsonaliteteve të njohura, ndër të cilët ishin Pablo Picasso, Muhammad Ali, Lee Harvey Oswald dhe Marilyn Monroe. Biografia e jetësore e fundit është më interesantja, sepse në kaptinën e funditfundit shkruan se Marilynin e mbytën agjentët e CIA-s dhe FBI-së për shkak të lidhjs së tyre me Robertom F. Kennedyn.
Ishte laureat i shumë çmimeve letrare, ndër të tjera edhe dy herë i Çmimit Pulitzer.
