Martin Luther King, Jr. (15 janar 1929 - 4 prill 1968) ishte një amerikan klerik, aktivist dhe lider i shquar i Lëvizjes së të Drejtave Civile afrikano-amerikane.

Martin Luther King, Jr., lindi më 15 Janar 1929, në Atlanta, Georgia. Ai ishte biri i Martin Luther King, Sr. dhe Alberta Williams King[3]. Babai i King ka lindur në "Michael King" dhe Martin Luther King, Jr., u emërua fillimisht "Michael King, Jr.", derisa familja udhëtoi në Evropë në 1934 dhe vizitoi Gjermanin. Babai i tij i ndryshoj për dy emrat e tyre për nder të liderit gjerman protestant Martin Luther[4]. Ai kishte një motër më të vjetër, Willie Christine King, dhe një vëlla më të vogël, Alfred Daniel Williams King[5].
King u martua me Coretta Scott, në 18 Qershor, 1953, në lëndinë të shtëpisë e prindërve të saj në qytetin e vet të Heiberger, Alabama[6]. King dhe Scott kishin katër fëmij; Yolanda King, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, and Bernice King [7].

- ^ The Episcopal and Lutheran Churches in the U.S. have feast days dedicated to King, on April 4 and January 15 respectively, as per the Calendar of saints (Episcopal Church in the United States of America), and Calendar of Saints (Lutheran). (Neither church has a formal canonization process.) There is a statue of King Jr. in the Gallery of 20th Century Martyrs at Westminster Abbey, London.
