Metallica është një grup heavy / thrash metal amerikan, i formuar më 28 Tetor 1981.

Ata kanë arritur të bëhen një prej grupeve më të suksesshme muzikore komercialisht të dekadave të fundit, me më shumë se 90 milionë albume të shitura në mbarë botën, përfshirë këtu edhe 57 milionë albumet e shitura në SHBA. Metallica po ashtu llogaritet si një prej grupeve thrash metal të "katërshes së madhe", bashkë me Megadeth, Slayer dhe Anthrax.

Historia e grupit

Fillimi

Metallica u formua në Los Angeles, California, në Tetor të vitit 1981 nga kitaristi dhe vokalisti James Hetfield dhe bateristi Lars Ulrich, 5 muaj më vonë pasi ky i fundit kishte bërë shpallje në revistën lokale "The Recycler", në kërkim të muzikantëve të tjerë "metal" për të formuar një grup metal dhe qe takuar për herë të parë me James Hetfield-in.

Muzika e grupit është frymëzuar nga grupet e para "heavy metal" dhe "hard rock" si Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin e Scorpions, grupet e Valës së Re të "heavy metal"-it britanik (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) si Venom, Motörhead, Diamond Head, Saxon, Judas Priest e Iron Maiden, si dhe nga muzika e grupeve të para "punk rock" si The Ramones, The Sex Pistols dhe The Misfits.

Më 14 Mars 1982 Metallica u paraqitën (luajtën) për herë të parë para publikut tek Radio City në Anaheim - California me këtë përbërje: James Hetfield (vokal/kitarë ritmike), Lars Ulrich (bateri), Dave Mustaine (kitarë solo) dhe i sapo pranuari në grup Ron McGovney (kitarë bas).

Vitet '80

Kill 'em All është albumi i parë i MetallicA-s, i inçizuar në vitin 1983 nga Megaforce Records dhe Jon Zazula. Inçizohet në Rochester, New York në pak ditë dhe shënon një hap të rëndësishëm në rrymën e muzikës Metal të quajtur Thrash Metal. Këngët janë të karakterizuara nga ritme kitare të rënda (heavy riff) dhe solot e kitaristit Dave Mustaine që janë shumë të shpejta. Tekstet flasin për anarki, muzikë, dhunë e beteja urbane. Ky album ka edhe një pjesë instrumentale të quajtur Anesthesia-Pulling Teeth, ku dëgjohet vetëm kitara bas dhe bateria. Këngët më të suksesshme janë The Four Horsemen, Hit The Lights, No Remorse dhe padyshim Seek And Destroy. Kjo e fundit është kënga që mbyll të gjitha koncertet e grupit duke filluar nga viti 2006. Albumi mban firmën e James Hetfield kitarë/vokal, Lars Ulrich bateri, Dave Mustaine kitarë solo dhe Cliff Burton kitarë bas. MetallicA që i kishin përgatitur këngët para se të fillonin inçizimin e albumit, në udhëtimin nga San Francisco në New York e larguan nga grupi kitaristin Dave Mustaine për problemet që kishte me drogën dhe alkoolin, si dhe për sjelljet e dhunshme. Kitaristi Kirk Hammet nga grupi Exodus arrin në New York në kohë për të marrë pjesë në inçizimin e albumit dhe që nga ajo kohë ai është pjesëtar i pandashëm i grupit.

Ride The Lightning(1984) është albumi i dytë i MetallicA-s dhe shënon një rritje të nivelit muzikor dhe përmbajtjes së teksteve. Këngët janë më komplekse dhe albumi ka një strukturë në renditjen e këngëve që përsëritet edhe në albumet Master Of Puppets e ...And Justice For All. Këtu dalin në pah aftësitë e Kirk Hammet dhe solot e tij super të shpejta. Nga ana e teksteve albumi shënon një hap përpara duke trajtuar tema ekzistenciale si në Fade To Black, luftën dhe mbijetesën në For Whom The Bell Tolls, tema biblike në Creeping Death, dënimin me vdekje në [Ride The Lightning]]. Pjesa e fundit është instrumentale, quhet The Call Of Ktulu dhe është frymëzuar nga vepra e shkrimtarit amerikan H.P. Lovecraft. Grupi vazhdon turneun në gjithë SHBA-në duke pasur një sukses të madh në paraqitjet "live".
