Metallica është një grup heavy / thrash metal amerikan, i formuar më 28 Tetor 1981.[1]

Ata kanë arritur të bëhen një prej grupeve më të suksesshme muzikore komercialisht të dekadave të fundit, me më shumë se 90 milion albume të shitura në mbarë botën,[2] [3] përfshirë këtu edhe 57 milion albumet e shitura në SHBA.[4] Metallica poashtu llogaritet si një prej grupeve thrash metal të "katërshes së madhe", bashkë me Megadeth, Slayer dhe Anthrax.

MetallicA u formua në Los Angeles, California, në Tetor 1981 nga gitaristi dhe vokalisti James Hetfield dhe bateristi Lars Ulrich, pasi që këta 2 bëne një shpallje ne revisten Recycler,ku per disa kohe te dy vendosnin lajmerime per te kerkuar dike per te formuar nje band metal.

Muzika e grupit është inspiruar nga grupet si Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Diamond Head, Saxon, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, dhe nga metal grupet e tjera britaneze. ...

Më 14 Mars 1982 MetallicA e mbajten Shoun e parë tek Radio City në Anaheim - California me LineUp-in : James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Ron McGovney, Dave Mustaine.

Kill 'em All Ështe albumi i pare i Metallica,i prodhuar ne vitin 1983 nga Megaforce Records dhe Jon Zazula.Rregjistrohet ne Rochester,New York ne pak dite dhe shenon nje hap te rendesishem ne ate rryme te muzikes Metal qe quhet Thrash Metal.Kenget jane te karakterizuara nga ritme kitarre te renda (heavy riff) dhe solot e kitarristit Dave Mustaine qe jane shume te shpejta.Tekstet flasin per anarki,muzike,dhune e beteja urbane.Ky album ka dhe nje pjese strumentale te quajtur Anesthesia-Pulling Teeth,ku degjohet vetem kitarra bas dhe bateria.Kenget me te famshme jane The Four Horseman,Hit The Lights,No remorse dhe padyshim Seek And Destroy.Kjo e fundit eshte kenga qe mbyll koncertet e grupit duke filluar nga viti 2006.Ky album mban firmen e James Hetfield kitarre/vokal,Lars Ulrich bateri,Dave Mustaine kitarrist kryesor dhe Cliff Burton basist.Metallica kishin pergatitur kenget para se te rregjistronin albumin,ne udhetimin nga San Francisco ne New York larguan nga grupi kitarristin Dave Mustaine per problemet e tij me alkoolin dhe dhunen.Kitarristi Kirk Hammet nga grupi Exodus i arrin ne New York ne kohe per rregjitrimin e albumit.Qe atehere ai eshte pjesetar i grupit.Ky album pati nje sukses te jashtezakonshem e ne pak kohe shiti rreth 5 milione kopje.


Ride The Lightning(1984) eshte albumi i dyte i Metallica dhe shenon nje rritje te nivelit muzikor dhe te teksteve.Kenget jane me komplekse dhe albumi ka nje strukture ne renditjen e kengeve qe perseritet dhe ne albumet Master Of Puppets dhe ...And Justice For All.Ketu dalin ne pah aftesite e Kirk Hammet dhe solot e tij super te shpejta.Nga ana e teksteve albumi shenon nje hap pepara duke trajtuar tema ekzistenciale si ne Fade To Black,luften dhe mbijetesen ne For Whom The Bell Tolls,tema biblike ne Creeping Death,denimin me vdekje ne [Ride The Lightning]].Kenga e fundit eshte instrumentale,quhet The Call Of Ktulu dhe eshte frymzuar nga vepra e shkrimtarit amerikan H.P. Lovecraft.Grupi vazhdon tourin ne gjithe U.S.A duke patur nje sukses shume te madh ne shfaqjet live.

  • "Damien Philips" (Jeff Warner) - Second guitarist for one gig in 1982 when James only sang due to breaking a bone while riding a skateboard.
  • John Marshall (Kirk Hammett's guitar technician, who also played for Metal Church) - Second guitarist for gigs whilst James was recovering from injuries (1986, broken wrist from skateboarding accident; 1992 burns from pyrotechnics suffered at Montreal's Olympic Stadium) when James only sang.
  • James injured his back while water-skiing prior to a show on July 7, 2000 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Korn, Kid Rock and System of a Down helped out.
  • Temporary drummers (when Lars Ulrich was unable to perform at the Download Festival on June 6, 2004): Dave Lombardo of Slayer, Joey Jordison of Slipknot, and Flemming Larsen (Ulrich's drum technician).
