Jometalet gjenden në anën e djathë të sistemit periodik dhe ndodhen në tri gjendjet agregate: të ngurtë, të lënget dhe të gaztë. Jometalet nuk janë përcjellës të mirë as të nxehtësisë as të elektricitetit përpos karbonit, i cili kur është grafit është përcjellës i mirë i nxehtësisë dhe elektricitetit, kurse si diamant është përçues i nxehtësisë. Veti e përbashkët e jometaleve është se ato formojnë acidet.jometaler perbejne 1/4 ose 25% te elementeve kimike ne sistemin periodik.Ato kane 5-7 elektrone ne shtresen e jashtme,marrin elektrone(vetem nje) dhe jane elektronegative.Vetia e tyre e mospercjelljes se energjise elektrike e ben perdorimin e jometaleve edhe me te rendesishem sepse kane nje perdorim te perditshem,me jometalet behet mbeshtjellja e telave te elektricitetit.Gjithashtu jometalet jane edhe jetesore,oksigjeni eshte nje jometal dhe pa te ne nuk do te jetonim dot.
