Panthera leo melanochaita është një nënlloj i luanit që ndodhet në Afrikën Lindore dhe Jugore.[1] Ai përfshin popullatat e mëposhtme:
- Luani i Kepit Rajonal (P. l. melanochaita) - shtrihej në provincën e Kepit të Shpresës së Mirë në Afrikën Jugore deri në mesin e shekullit të 19-të.[2]
- Luani i Afrikës Lindore, më parë P. l. massaicus (Neumann 1900) - shtrihet në Afrikën Lindore.[1]
- Luani i Afrikës Jugore, më parë P. l. bleyenberghi (Lönnberg 1914) - shtrihet në Afrikën Jugore.[1]
