Arsimi parashkollor përfshin arsimimin dhe edukimin e fëmijëve të moshës parashkollore, ose periudhën prej moshës 6 (gjashtë) muaj e deri sa ata të fillojnë shkollën fillore ose ndryshe, përfshin fëmijët ndërmjet moshës 2½ deri 6 vjet, e që paraqet periudhën para fillimit të arsimit të detyrueshëmshkollë fillore. Bartës të arsimit dhe edukimit në këtë periudhë janë institucionet arsimore parashkollore si janë çerdhet, kopshtet, klasat parafillore, shkollat e lojës. Arsimi parashkollor mund të jetë privat ose qeveritar dhe të përfshijë kujdesin tërëditor, parashkollor, dhe/ose çerdhe (kindergarten).[1]

Terminologjia ndryshon sipas vendit. Në disa vende evropiane termi "kopshti i fëmijëve" ose "kindergarten"  i referohet arsimit formal të fëmijëve të klasifikuar sipas ISCED niveli 0 - me një ose disa vite të tilla arsimit të detyrueshëm para se fëmijët të fillojnë shkollën fillore, sipas ISCED niveli 1.[2]
